The Japanese word “Taiko” means “drum” or “big drum”, the latter being an apt description for these huge instruments. But this very physical art form is a lot more than simply drumming - it has a lot in common with theatre, dance and martial arts.
This is an energetic, accessible and enjoyable discipline. Students are taught to play simple things well, and within the context of the 4 key principles of Taiko. Pupils will also compose their very own piece, using a simple notation system.
